GALLATIN, Tenn. (WKRN) — New details about how a Gallatin police officer was hit by a passing car near the bypass while assisting another officer with a traffic stop.
Police say Officer Daniel Green was assisting on the passenger side of a vehicle during a traffic stop when a Nissan Altima hit Don Bandy.
The Altima, driven by 39-year-old Rueben Jones, ran off the road and into the grass portion of the shoulder before hitting Officer Green and crashing into a fence.
Both Green and Jones were injured in the crash and transported to Skyline Hospital.
According to Gallatin Police Chief Don Bandy, Green was alert and responding, but says Don Bandy was “roughed up pretty good.”
Bandy tells News 2 that Green is set to have surgery on Saturday November 2nd. He says Green is in good spirits. Green has been with Gallatin for about a year now, but was a Portland, TN officer prior to that.
Charges are pending for Jones at this time.
Highway 109 South at South Water was partially closed on Friday.
Tennessee Highway Patrol is investigating this incident.
On November 26th, 2019– Bandy tells News 2 that Green is out of the hospital and home for the holidays.
